Scio Veterans Memorial Dedication, July 4, 2008

One thousand persons plus attended the dedication of the Scio Veterans Memorial Celebration on Independence Day, Friday July 4th. The ceremony started at 11:00 am at the Memorial at the intersection of Highway 226 and First Street in Downtown Scio. The memorial was just upgraded and expanded from it's original 1982 construction with funds including a park grant from the State of Oregon. The town overflowed with onlookers which included local biker organizations and citizens filling the 500 plus seating and grandstands. |
Parents, grandparents and children lining the parameter of the memorial, over the bridge and on the opposite side of First Street and Highway 226. The event was headed by Master of Ceremonies Gene Peery, owner of Century Farms Equestrian Center in Scio, and a multi-decorated Vietnam Vet where he served as a helicopter pilot. The ceremonies also included an address by Sherry Springer State Representative and a special fly over by the Oregon Air National Guard with an F-15. (Audio Online).
